The most notorious beardo of the Canadian 2011 RWC squad has retired from international rugby. It was announced on his Twitter page yesterday afternoon, after a decade of national team involvement. Kleeberger is best known for his bone shaking tackles and his Charity beard shave.
Adam played for the University of Victoria in British Columbia, for the Rotherham Titans, and had a stint in the ITM cup with Auckland which was followed by a short time at London Scottish.
Back at the 2011 RWC, the beard had arguably one of the best games of his career. Canada beat Tonga, 25-20 with Kleeberger recording a whopping 24 tackles in the game, earning himself man of the match.
His announcement came the same day as the Canadian coach, Keiran Crowley announced the 2015 RWC training squad that will play in the upcoming Pacific Nations Cup and world cup warm up matches.
“I wouldn’t want to go to the PNC and just go through the emotions or to just make up the numbers. I wouldn’t want to go to a tournament like that where we’re competing internationally and competing for our country and be a passenger. I’d want to strive to make that team better.”
Kleeberger plans on going into the field of medicine, if he puts in the similar drive and focus that was seen at the 2011 RWC, it’ll be a piece of cake. We here at RBP wish him the best, and thank him for helping to bring international attention to the sport of rugby in Canada.
