Blues legend Keven Mealamu will have a lump in his throat this weekend when he captains the side in his final Super Rugby game.
The All Blacks hooker is bringing his glittering Super Rugby career to a close having played his rugby in Auckland since 2001.
During his career Mealamu was become one of the most respected hookers in world rugby, praised for his consistency, with Friday being his 175th Super Rugby game for the Blues.
The 36-year-old Mealamu is yet to make a decision on whether he will retire or play overseas but as things stand he will be going to the Rugby World Cup with New Zealand in September.
Mealamu paid tribute to those close to him and was thankful for getting a chance to play Super Rugby for so long.
“I’ve been blessed to have been able to play in Super Rugby for 15 years, and this is certainly not the end of my rugby quite yet. I will make a final decision on that at the end of the year,” said Mealamu.
“In some ways it will be emotional to share my final Super Rugby game on Friday with my team-mates, my friends and especially my family.”
