Brian O’Driscoll made his much heralded television punditry debut this Monday past on BT Sports weekly show, Rugby Tonight.
Alongside Lawrence Dallaglio and Austin Healy, among others, BOD provided insight and opinion on a range of Rugby matters, including the inevitable question of who he thinks will succeed him in the Irish 13 shirt. Diplomatically, O’Driscoll talked up the credentials of his three mooted successors, Robbie Henshaw, Luke Fitzgerald and Jared Payne, without really nailing his colours to any particular mast.
Breakdown acumen is an attribute not readily associated with centres, but, oddly, this was an area where O’Driscoll excelled during his career and BT decided to eek every bit of value from the Irishman when they asked him for a demonstration of the dark arts of the breakdown.

Darren Cave is the best 13 in Ireland. Far superior to Payne as a 13, Fitzgerald has played there once and Henshaw is big, fast and without vision.
