When challenged to name some of the greatest wingers in the professional era, two names are unanimous on everyone’s list, Jonah Lomu and Shane Williams.
The latter was arguably the best broken field runner in modern Northern Hemisphere Rugby. What the Osprey lacked in physical stature, he made up for with blazing pace and a cerebral Rugby brain that facilitated all his brilliant line running.
A famous example of Williams considerable arsenal of skills was on show when Wales faced Australia at the Millennium Stadium in a 2008 Autumn international. Williams instigated the move with his run and offload before, after a number of phases, he played the role of poacher extraordinaire and got on the end of the move he started in the corner to claim another brilliant try.
