The Barbarians, despite a growing subculture of nay sayers who question it’s relevance in the modern game, is a unique and thoroughly interesting concept in World Rugby.
Indeed, not only is the Barbarian’s invariably composed of players of world class capabilities who play the game in an entertaining gung-ho fashion, there are also interesting sub plots, like team-mates playing against one another.
That was the case in 2011 when Stirling Mortlock, recently dropped from the Australian squad, faced off against his former team-mate, David Pocock, as the Barbarians played the Wallabies.
Despite the relatively care free fashion of a Barbarians game, Mortlock, perhaps with a point to prove, absolutely smashes the backrow with a tackle of immense proportions.
