A penny for Piri Weepu’s thoughts.
After years of collecting silverware as the All Blacks incumbent scrum half, Piri Weepu finally decided, last summer, to try European Rugby when he signed for London Welsh.
Despite signing upwards of twenty players, Welsh have found life in the Aviva Premiership hell; losing all their games and conceding upwards of two hundred points in their opening five games.
Last weekend, Welsh faced relegation rivals Newcastle in a must win game at the foot of the table, which they went on to lose 23-3.
In a sequence that summed up his and Welsh’s season, Weepu was steamrollered by Newcastle’s loosehead and England squad member, Kieran Brookes.
If it wasn’t for Chris Hala’ufia, the prop would have scored and Weepu’s day would have gone from bad to worse.
