Ever wondered why Bryan Habana spells his name B-r-y-a-n rather than the more conventional and common Brian? The answer, along with other nuggets of Habana factoids were revealed in Habana and Tendai ”The Beast” Mtawarira’s interview with BT Sports’ Megan Mutrie.
It turns out that Habana’s father’s love for Manchester United was the source of Bryan’s name.
Habana seniors two favourite players were Gary Bailey and Brian Robson and he supplanted the Y from Bailey and placed where the I is in Brian and subsequently named his son Bryan, the hybrid name he invented.
Habana also proclaimed his belief that Rugby helped heal social divide between the white’s and the blacks of South Africa.
The Beast, meanwhile, doesn’t much and, instead, holds up flashcards for Habana to read out.
