Sean O’Brien made his return to international rugby last weekend with Ireland,
and made his presence and selection know a mere 8 minutes in with this
absolute monster of a ruck clear out!
With some poor control from Jamie Heaslip at the base of the scrum, the ball
squeezed out, forcing Conor Murray to dive on the ball. The situation looked
precarious for the Irish as the French trio of Rory Kockett, Bernard La Roux and
French skipper Thierry Dusautoir looked odds on to create a turnover.
This didn’t deter our Irish hero, as he single handedly cleared out the ruck, not
only securing the ball but also buying time for his fellow forwards to join in and
provide a platform for Johnny Sexton to clear.
The clip online has been seen by over 100,000 people, O’Brien being one of them!
“I’ve seen it alright,” he has said.
“Hard not to! There were lots of rucks that I
didn’t clear out well. That’s what I thought most about after, that I missed a few ‘barrels’. I was rusty, like. I missed a couple of tackles and stuff. Things like that. Hopefully that’ll be better next week”.
With Heaslip now out for the crucial game against England, Ireland fans will be
hoping to see plenty more of this from O’Brien next weekend.
