Number 5 – Kieran Marmion vs. Leinster

Last year Marmion came onto the scene from nowhere along with Henshaw as Connacht’s rising stars. He has improved immensely and become and integral part of Connacht’s winning form this year. His try earlier in the year against Leinster sums up how Marmion’s speed and quick thinking has helped Connacht. Brilliant individual try.

Number 4- Nick Cummins vs. Australia 

Nick Cummins scores against the Wallabies? Probably not a headline you expected to hear at the start of 2014! The aussie cult hero moved to Japan after the Super Rugby season which allowed him to tog out for the famous BaBas in November in one of the game of the year. This Barbarians side was one of the best we have seen in years and provided some awesome tries and moments of skill.

3. Number 3- Danny Care vs. Ireland

Ireland fans look away. In Ireland’s only defeat of the year, Mike Brown provided a bit of magic with a hard running line through the Irish defence. His superb last minute offload allowed the rapid Danny Care to dive over under the posts in one of the best tries of the 6 Nations.

Number 2- Bernard Foley vs. Brumbies

Can you think of a better way to secure your place in a Super Rugby final? Probably not. While the Brumbies are in attack Foley make an excellent tackle in defence before the Tahs break away from their own 22. The 6’10 Will Skelton delivers a delicious offload to Foley who raced back up the pitch to run in for the try. Absolute magic!

Number 1 -Fa’asiu Fuatai v North Harbour

We could watch this over and over and over and over and over… yeah you get the idea. This try has to be our number 1 here at RBP HQ. The execution of this immaculate move is beyond perfection. Is there anything else to say? It’s just complete madness from Otago.

After weeks of conjecture, it was today confirmed that Jonathan Sexton will return to his former club, Leinster, at the end of the current campaign.

After a year in France with Racing Metro, Sexton has decided the time was right for a return home and the news will surely delight both Michael O’Connor and Joe Schmidt, his coaches at Leinster and Ireland respectively, as well as the Irish Rugby Football Union who will be delighted that one of their most prized assets will be under their watch in the build up to the Rugby World Cup.

The news was broken by the Irish Independents Rugby correspondent, Ruaidhri O’Connor, and was soon followed by a statement from the Irishman’s current club, Racing Metro’s president, Jackie Lorenzetti.

Rumours were abound that Sexton was the subject of a mouth watering lucrative contract offer from Toulon, but, unusually, the French giants haven’t gotten their man.

Te’o looks set for a code switch to Leinster.

According to reports in this mornings Irish Independent, reiterating the news we brought you on our Facebook page over a month ago, it looks like South Sydney Rabbitoh’s star, Ben Te’o may be set for a code switch to join Pro12 Champions, Leinster.

The move is thought to be on the cusp of completion with Te’o, in the last year of his Rabbitoh’s contract, having positive talks with a Leinster delegate in Dublin earlier this month.

Leinster’s coach, Matt O’Connor, a former League player, is thought to have no reservations about Teo’s ability to switch to Union, the sport he played during his formative years in Auckland, New Zealand.

The fact that Munster did not renew Casey Laulala’s contract means, under IRFU laws, there is a vacancy for a non Irish outside centre and Leinster have earmarked Te’o to be that man, replacing the legendary Brian O’Driscoll.

Te’o, who qualifies for England through his mother, may be seen as a future Irish international, as, at 27, he is young enough to play International Rugby after fulfilling the requisite three years of residency in the country.

Renowned as a hard runner and with a well rounded offloading game, Te’o also has a reputation as a hardened defender with a penchant for big hits, as the video below shows.

Leinster were looking to make it 2 in a row with a win over Glasgow, while Glasgow wanted to make history and win their first title.

The game was fiercely contested up until half time with a score of 14-12 to Leinster on 40 minutes. Leinster came out all guns blazing in the second half and put the game to bed with tries from Gordon D’arcy and a second of the game for Zane Kirchner.

Today also was the end of an era as Leo Cullen & Brian O’Driscoll hung up their boots for the final time. It was a pity to see O’Driscoll to go off injured within 10 minutes but it wasn’t a bad season to finish on either.

It doesn’t seem so long ago he took part in the miracle comeback in Paris in 2000. It is crazy to think the greatest Irish sportsman is finally hanging up his boots.

With the chance of one last piece of silverware tomorrow in the PRO12 Final against Glasgow, it couldn’t have been set up any better for him to say goodbye.

All rugby fans from across the globe can appreciate what O’Driscoll has achieved over the years and the moments of brilliance he has produced time and time again.

Last night Brian O’Driscoll & Leo Cullen pulled on the blue of Leinster for the second last time on front of a home crowd at the RDS. Leinster narrowly beat Edinburgh 15-13 in a dull game which confirmed Leinster’s semi-final against Ulster next Saturday.

The two legends of Irish and Leinster rugby had a few words to say as they thanked the fans for all their support over the years and bid their final proper farewell on home soil. Watch the video here:

Spanning well into its third month, this case is a crucial test for the ARU’s new contracting system for players of national interest. It highlights the conflicting priorities of the Super Rugby franchises and the union that bankrolls them. The ARU’s offer is a clear signal to the 24-year-old workhorse forward that, despite his seminal contribution to the Waratahs’ campaign this season, he is still just a bench second-rower in the eyes of Ewen McKenzie, as the Queensland partnership of James Horwill and Rob Simmons is still preferred by the Wallabies coach.

Where it gets tricky is the Waratahs’ strategic importance to the ARU. Bill Pulver contends that the success of the ARU as a business relies heavily on the performance of the NSW franchise. After the departure of Rebels lock Hugh Pyle to France trimming local talent even further, Cheika will likely start looking offshore for Douglas’ replacement if he does indeed head to the Aviva.

How can Pulver balance the constraints of the ARU’s financial situation with the need to keep Australia’s most valuable players in the country? A difficult task, and one that needs to be addressed soon.
