Tuilagi Arrested in Dublin

Alesana Tuilagi, A Samoan rugby international, has appeared in court in Dublin in relation to an alleged assault in the city.

Alesana Tuilagi, the 100kg+ winger for Samoa was arrested by arrangement at Dublin Airport this morning on foot of an outstanding European arrest warrant.

Detective Inspector Tony Howard of the Gardai, the Irish police force, told the Dublin District Court that Mr Tuilagi had been charged in connection with an alleged assault on Dublin’s Harcourt Street in April of 2011.

The court heard that Mr Tuilagi presented himself by appointment and was taken to Coolock Garda Station, North Dublin where he was charged this afternoon.

Inspector Howard told the court that CCTV footage existed of the alleged assault along with witness statements.

Mr Tuilagi was remanded on cash bail to appear before court on 21 October.

Inspector Howard said that there was no objection to bail and that Mr Tuilagi had provided an address in the UK.
