RBP Gear Bag: 2015 Adidas Crazyquick Malice

The replacement to the much loved Adizero RS7, the Crazyquick Malice has an absurdly long and difficult name and much more besides. The favored boots of Keith Earls, Stuart Hogg and Anthony Watson, these boots are rapidly gaining favor around the world and it’s easy to see why.

Simple, elegant, these boots have the looks that the modern outside back wants, and demands. There will probably be a fair amount that think that they’re too plain, but to my mind, Adidas have reached a good balance of flash and sensibility. Also, like all of this years Adidas boots they come in the sublime blacked out version, so to those that like the Darth Vader thing, for once, Adidas have got you covered. I would like to see a few more color scheme options, I feel that players having boots that are different colors from their sides kit makes them look unprofessional.

The boot was designed with input from All Blacks senior players, so there are several interesting features that make this boot special. Firstly the laces are pushed over like they are on the incurza, and the boot shape and material is designed to better accommodate kicking. Another clever feature is the presence of flexion zones to better enable running, as well as the usual 10mm heel raise that most Adidas boots offer.

These boots are absurdly comfortable. I’ve been tempted to wear them about town because I like the way they feel so much. This is thanks to soft padding wraps, which provide a lot of support and comfort around the ankle, a feature that makes a world of difference. in many ways it seems that Adidas have focused on comfort, ever since many felt that the last few RS7’s were really lacking in that department, and boy they have succeeded.

There is a major issue with these boots however, and that is the cost. They run at £160, and that is a lot to shell out. That being said, my brother had a pair of RS7’s last season, and at the end of the year they looked virtually the same as they had when they came out of the box, bar a few scuffs of course. This means that these boots should last a very long time, and your investment will be rewarded with plenty of longevity. Should this be too much for you to be bothered to pay, my advice would be to wait a few months, or until Adidas release the next model, and then scoop up a pair for cheap, they’re worth it.

I would absolutely recomend these boots to a friend, albeit with a warning about the cost before hand. They’re comfortable, light, and all the technology actually works ( a lot of times I find that stuff to be a load of bollocks)and that is why you should consider getting yourself kitted out with a pair.
