South African Shaun Veldsman, who is due to serve as Television Match Official for Ireland’s Six Nations clash with England at Aviva Stadium on Sunday, is recovering after being stabbed in Cape Town.

Veldsman was attacked in his car while driving after officiating at Saturday’s Super Rugby match between the Stormers and Blues. He was stabbed in the lung and his mobile phone was stolen after the driver-side window of his car was broken. Veldsman is believed to be in a stable condition in hospital but is highly unlikely to travel and it is expected that World Rugby will appoint a replacement for Sunday’s game.

South African Craig Joubert will referee the clash, with Frenchmen Jerome Garcès and Mathieu Raynal his assistant referees.

Everyone here at RBP would like to wish Shaun a speedy recovery.
