In anticipation of a potential rematch with Clermont Auvergne and Jamie Cudmore in this season’s Rugby Champions Cup, Paul O’Connell recently spent the day training in both Rugby and boxing with another icon of Irish sport, Olympic gold medalist, Katie Taylor.

After sparring with Taylor, O’Connell admitted that the agility training in boxing would be ideal for burly second row forwards, particularly in the latter stages of a match.

This is made for rugby. When big guys like me begin to struggle, 50th, 60th minute of the game, I think that’s where training like this would be incredible for rugby players.

Afterwards,  O’Connell and Taylor spent some time training with some underage Rugby players, which included time practicing kicking for goal. Unsurprisingly, O’Connell’s attempt drifted wide, despite his best Jonny Wilkinson impression
