In a moving interview on BT Sport’s Rugby Tonight, former Springbok scrum half Joost van der Westhuizen, gave an insightful and moving interview, via an interpreter.

Joost, who was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis in May 2010, spoke at length about his work with his charitable foundation, J9, which has the explicit aim of raising awareness about Motor Neuron disease.

Speaking ahead of the Sprinboks upcoming test against England, van der Westhuizen feels that the Springboks’ shock reversal against Ireland last weekend will act as a proverbial kick in the arse for the South Africans, saying that Irish done South Africa a “big favour”

Best of all, a brilliant quote attributed to Van der Westhuizen was read out: “Life is not measured by the amount of years lived; but by the amount of memories created”
