Gear Bag: Trusox Review

Ever wonder what the square dots that you see around the ankles of professional players like Stuart Hogg and Jamie Heaslip are? The answer is simple, Trusox.

These socks are special because they have special grip pads on the bottom, meaning that your foot does not move in your shoe, reducing the chance of you getting blisters and maximising the power you put into each step.

It may not sound like much, but these grip pads do make a big difference. At first, your shoes may be a little harder to put on and take off, but once you are in them, they feel like they fit better, and your feet and ankles feel much more supported. In addition, you can get the socks in either a padded or unpadded style.
The padded socks are extremely comfortable. I would compare the feeling to that of Nike Elite socks. The padding goes a long way in blister prevention, and makes landing following jumps just a little bit easier.

You can get Trusox in either a low-cut, a mid-calf cut, or a full length cut. The mid-calf is the best selling variety, and to wear it with your uniform, you simply cut the bottom of your club socks, and then wear them as a leg sleeve, so you can show as much or as little of the Trusox as you like. It’s recommended that you tape over the meeting point of the two so that neither moves around on your leg, but that is up to you. Trusox say you cannot double sock their product or it will not work.

These socks look really good, and come in a wide variety of colors, as well as the three different styles. The colors also match with a lot of the kit socks made by canterbury, Adidas etc. so you don’t need to worry about sticking out either.

Now we get to the price, and this is where things get tricky. The socks are £24.99(GBP) or $39.99 (USD). That is an absurd amount of money to have to shell out for socks, and there are a lot of people who will be turned away by that simple fact, but there are a few things to keep in mind. Firstly, this is a high-quality product, made by a relatively small buisness. You do get a small business, customer first feel when working with the people there, from the minute you start shopping until your socks have actually arrived. Secondly, this is a relatively new product, so making there way will be hard at first. Finally, these are a very good piece of kit, that will last a long time and that you can use time and time again.

I would absolutely recommend the socks to a friend, but would not expect them to buy them with the product costing so much. That said, if you are willing to pay that kind of money, you are getting a very good product in return.
